Automation goes live
06 January 2025
THE FIRST of seven additional automated blocks at Hutchison Ports BEST is now operational.
Once they are all operational in early 2025, the terminal will have 25% more yard-storage capacity. This will allow a greater volume of containers to operate and meet the growing demands of global trade.
The automated blocks at the terminal are designed to offer high speed, accuracy, reliability and capacity in container handling, resulting in greater efficiency for both transport companies or carriers and shipping lines. Automation allows a more agile and safer cargo management, reducing waiting times and optimising the flow of goods.
Additionally, BEST has signed a contract with ZPMC for the acquisition of two new Super Post Panamax gantry cranes. These cranes, which will be located in the northern area of the terminal, will be the tallest in the terminal, 10 metres higher than the current ones, making them some of the largest equipment in Mediterranean ports. They are expected to arrive at BEST during the first half of 2026.
