Bakers Basco signs new agreements with Allied and Hovis

Bakers Basco signs new agreements with Allied Bakeries and Hovis to lead investigation and recovery efforts for equipment.

BAKERS BASCO, the national membership scheme set up by the five leading UK bakeries, has expanded its role as the primary source of investigation and recovery for both Allied Bakeries and Hovis equipment.

This strategic initiative underscores Bakers Basco's commitment to protecting the interests of its member bakeries and ensuring the responsible use of its equipment across the industry.

As part of this effort, Bakers Basco will serve as the central point of contact for reporting misappropriated equipment and will advise customers on all details associated with the abuse. The company will focus on retrieving its own Omega equipment, specifically targeting third-party locations in the execution of its normal duties and activities.

"By taking a proactive stance in investigating and recovering misappropriated equipment, we are reinforcing our commitment to maintaining a fair and responsible bakery equipment ecosystem."

Richard Hodgson, logistics director at Allied Bakeries and board director of Bakers Basco comments: "Recognising the numerous advantages of the Bakers Basco scheme, it was inevitable that we would expand our agreement to encompass investigations and recovery of our own bread baskets. Our alignment with Bakers Basco on shared values underscores our mutual goal of efficiently repatriating equipment, reducing costs, and minimising the environmental footprint associated with any misplaced or abused equipment."

Key aspects of the agreement include:

  • Customer Engagement: Customers are encouraged to report instances of equipment misuse to Bakers Basco. Upon receiving a lead, the customer's team should initiate contact with the premises where the abuse is occurring and attempt to retrieve their own equipment.
  • Investigation Process: Upon receiving details of the abuse, Bakers Basco will take action and visit the premises if Omega equipment is present. The company will engage in conversations with the site, issue verbal warnings, and request the return of the equipment. Charges for equipment usage may also be issued if necessary
  • Litigation: If attempts to retrieve the equipment are unsuccessful, Bakers Basco will engage its legal team and initiate the litigation process to ensure compliance
  • Monitoring and Enforcement: Sites that don’t comply with Bakers Basco's requests will be placed on the company's records for future reference
