Warehouse profile: Boughey Distribution in Lymedale

BOUGHEY DISTRIBUTION occupied a newly-built ambient warehouse at Lymedale Business Park, Newcastle-under-Lyme this year. Logistics Matters has a closer look.

Location: 

Lymedale, North West of Stoke-on-Trent, and close to the M6

Specs: 

  • 322,000 sq feet
  • 18 metre height
  • 52,270 pallet spaces

Lease:

15-year lease from Aver Property. Initial capital expenditure around £8.5 million.

Technology:

Two new conveyor unloaders, reducing manual handling strain during container destuffing.

Sustainability:

  • Energy-efficient lighting.
  • Excellent thermal qualities.
  • Recycling waste materials at source, such as cardboard and shrink wrap, which are baled prior to collection for recycling.

Jobs:

Over 150 full-time permanent roles.

Safety:

New safety system on dock doors to address accidental drive-offs from bay doors. This new system aims to make such incidents almost impossible.

Boughey Distribution general manager Tony Brooker, says: “Looking forward, we aim to provide our customers with the best possible experience, giving them a competitive advantage. We believe our Lymedale site will deliver this and more. The success of this site not only helps us attract more customers but also creates a compelling business case to replicate our achievements at additional sites in the future.”

Managing director Angela Carus added: “We had been on the look-out for suitable additional warehouse capacity for some time and are very fortunate to have sealed a deal with Aver Property. The warehouse is of the highest specification and within easy reach of our two existing sites in Wardle and Crewe.”
