Construction materials firm makes safety progress

28 May 2024

KNAUF UK & Ireland, along with distribution partner CCF, has announced a significant reduction in health and safety related incidents in 2023.

The manufacturer of gypsum-based building materials in the UK achieved a 23.75% reduction in incidents compared to the previous year.

Emphasising a culture of continuous improvement, Knauf implemented targeted strategies to enhance H&S practices across its operations. Analysis from CCF underscored the importance of people-centric approaches, ensuring subcontractors and haulage partners were well-informed and aligned with safety protocols. In particular, initiatives in Scotland involved specialised training programmes and real-time communication with drivers to reinforce safety expectations and protocols.

Recognising the critical role of effective communication, Knauf implemented tailored messaging strategies to address specific risks and concerns. By leveraging technology and driver forums, Knauf ensured consistent messaging while avoiding information overload. Knauf also proactively reviewed load configurations and packaging methods to enhance safety during transportation and handling.

Knauf UK and Ireland logistics manager Brian Moran, says: “Celebrating this significant reduction in health and safety incidents reflects Knauf’s commitment to fostering a culture of excellence in safety. However, this is not the end of the process, and we will always work on continuing to reduce the number even further, with an aim for zero harm.”
