Dawn of a new era

12 July 2023

As we prepare for an uncertain 2023, HSS is excited to reveal its rebrand as Logistics Matters - with a view to better cover the wide range of challenges facing the world of materials handling, supply chain, warehousing and logistics.

AFTER MORE than 20 years of Handling & Storage solutions (HSS) magazine, we are renaming the title to Logistics Matters.

The name HSS has served us well over the years, as we have covered fast changing trends in warehousing, logistics and materials handling.

Much of the huge changes in supply chain and logistics over that period have been driven by the rise of eCommerce. Logistics was once a relatively simple business of transporting goods from factory to warehouse to shop, and it was perfected over many years.

But this once monolithic model has now been greatly splintered with many nuances and variations to suit a vast range of different business models and cater to varied consumer desires.

Throw technology into the mix and it has become clear that terms such as handling and storage, useful and applicable though they are, don’t quite grasp the full complexity and variety that it is the reality of warehousing for the contemporary UK market.

While handling and storing will always be key functions, we wanted a name for the magazine which would more accurately encompass the broad range of challenges faced by logistics professionals and warehouse occupiers up and down the land.

That’s why we have gone for Logistics Matters. We want to be able to accurately describe the great complexity of the challenges faced by users, and the quickly increasing sophistication of the greatly varied products and solutions available to tackle these challenges. It’s a change of title that reflects a changed reality.

It also highlights how logistics does indeed matter, that logistics is a crucial industry, that is more important than ever. The pandemic, the cost of living crisis, and the war in Ukraine, emphasise that logistics is more than a key business enabler, though it certainly is that, it is also a strategically vital foundation upon which every aspect of this society relies.

The content in Logistics Matters will not differ radically from HSS. Apart from the title, from January next year, the magazine will feel very much like an evolution rather than a revolution from the magazine you are accustomed to.

We want this is to be a journey we share with you and we would love to hear your feedback on the new magazine when it launches in January.

Online

As well as changing the name of the magazine, we will change the name of our website to - www.logisticsmatters.co.uk. From January 1 2023, we will switch HSS seamlessly over to the new website. The existing website has served us very well, but the new website brings new features, and with its new name will be much more searchable and will produce a busier and better hub for content.

Frequency

We will move the magazine to to six issues per year. Remaining one of the few publications in the market committed both to print and ABC audits, focusing on six issues per year allows us to provide deeper content, taking a lead from the success of our Tomorrow’s Warehouse Special Report.

We will ensure we have coverage that is as topical as possible. We will send two e-newsletters per week to our robust database and keep content on the relaunched website fresh.
