Fully automated smart factory goes live
09 March 2022
LED DISPLAY manufacturing giant Unilumin has launched a fully automated smart factory where the whole logistics process, from raw material receiving, quality inspection, warehousing, discharging, production, to finished product warehousing and distribution will be powered by automated robots.
The project has been implemented by Geek+, the global leader in AMR technology, and PANGQI Technology, a Chinese smart logistics solution provider.
The facility features multi-floor robot collaboration, as well as fully integrated digital operations. More than 100 Geek+ robots are handling nearly 30 different LED production operations over 10 floors and an area of about 100,000 sq m.
The project is located in the second phase of Unilumin’s Daya Bay, Huizhou factory. The factory is currently the world's largest smart LED manufacturing facility.
The setup involves four types of AMRs: P800, a goods-to-person picking robot, is used for raw material storage and in-store picking; RS5, a tote-to-person picking robot, is used for bin storage and in-store picking; MP1000R, a moving robot, is responsible for inbound and outbound flows and empty container recovery; and four-way shuttles are used for finished product storage. To accomplish this feat, Geek+ and PANGQI customised Unilumin’s warehouse management system (WMS) and robot management system (RMS), creating the first integration of cross-floor, multi-category robot fleet solution in the LED industry.
Pan Xixiang, deputy director of automation of Guangdong Unilumin Energy Saving Technology Co, says: “Unilumin has always focused on technology and design and strives to be the leader in the LED industry. This time we have partnered with industry leaders Geek+ and PANGQI to create a whole-process flexible logistics system in the second phase of our factory in Daya Bay, Huizhou. Introducing technologies and equipment such as human-computer interfaces, industrial robots, and intelligent logistics, we are constantly working to realise digital manufacturing and Industry 4.0 upgrades.”
Wu Xiaoqian, founder and CEO of PANGQI Technology, adds: “Through PANGQI's smart logistics solution and Geek+’s AMRs and artificial intelligence, we have solved the problems of receiving, zoning storage, set shipping, and production line receiving of raw materials for over 180,000 SKUs, achieving an industry breakthrough. Unilumin not only ensured no production line stoppage and normal production operation during the upgrade process, but also continuously created a new historical high in production.”
Zheng Yong, founder and CEO of Geek+, says: “Geek+ is committed to achieving global smart logistics transformation and is constantly striving to provide robot solutions in complex scenarios. We are excited to leverage the combined strengths of our robot fleets and work with PANGQI to empower industry innovation pioneer Unilumin to create a comprehensive and integrated flexible solution that continues to lead global LED manufacturing.”
