THE WAREHOUSE on Bermuda park, Nuneaton was pre-let from developer Goodman by Hello Fresh at the height of the global pandemic in 2020 and went operational after a massive fit out in 2022.
The company has sent letters to its 800 employees proposing the closure of the site subject to consultation saying: “We have made the difficult decision to propose the closure of our distribution centre in Nuneaton, subject to consultation. After reviewing all of our options, we have decided that consolidating our operations and leveraging more of the technologically advanced parts of our network will enable us to offer the best product to our customers while reducing emissions and waste.”
“The proposal is for the site to remain operational until at least mid-2025, so everyone has been notified significantly earlier than their contractual notice periods. The planned closure of the site is no reflection on the performance of the local team, and we are grateful for their hard work and commitment.”
The company is looking to redeploy employees to its other sites in Banbury and Derby. It said that the two-site model in the UK would help the company reduce waste and emissions while offering better service and more personalisation.
The 230,384 ft2 building known as The Hive was fitted out to provide frozen, chilled and ambient storage capacity, and highly flexible warehouse space to suit its production and packing methods.
