Mechanisation helps retailer pivot to omnichannel
02 July 2024
EYEWEAR RETAILER General Óptica has revamped its logistics centre to adapt to omnichannel sales.
Mecalux has designed and installed a storage and picking system featuring an automated box conveyor system, pallet racking and picking shelves. The DC in Spain has dedicated 2,000 sq m to storage and 300 sq m to its offices.
General Óptica logistics and transport manager Juan González, says: “To adapt to omnichannel, our warehouse required a level of automation that would significantly boost efficiency in processes and reduce possible errors in picking and shipping products to shops and suppliers.
“We distribute products to suppliers, physical shops and online customers from this facility, in addition to replenishing frames and managing returns.”
General Óptica performs 12,000 operations a day, where workers presort products into boxes via a put-to-light system. The conveyors then transport the goods to the consolidation area.
