Weetabix grabs Safer Logistics Award

09 May 2023

The winners of the Safety and Health Excellence Awards 2023 have been revealed at a sold-out gala ceremony hosted by Strictly Come Dancing’s Tess Daly.

THIS YEAR’S SHE Awards received a record 220+ entries and all 750 tickets to the ceremony sold out in record time. The Awards took place on 26 April 2022 at The Vox, Resorts World at NEC Birmingham.

The Safer Logistics Awards, was sponsored by Logistics Matters. Weetabix won the award, while DPD and International Workplace were highly commended for their entry and Vodafone Idea was commended.

The Goal Zero campaign took Weetabix’s safety performance from very good to great - with a 50% reduction in Lost Time Accidents within six months. The campaign left no stone unturned including a video advent calendar; a resident contractor relating his story of a serious incident with a forklift, and a whole lot more besides. A fantastic logistics safety exemplar.

Safety first with M&S at Tomorrow’s Warehouse

Gain insight into the workings of the retailer’s highly automated Castle Donington distribution centre.

JAMES CARTER, Network H&S Manager, Marks & Spencer will present on how AI software tools have helped M&S to reduce incidents by 80% in less than 10 weeks at its massive Castle Donington DC.

Following the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic, M&S’s largest Ecommerce Distribution Centre at Castle Donington saw a heavy increase in customer orders to two million single orders per week.

This increase in demand meant more workers were required on-site. As a result, it was a requirement from senior management to ensure the safety of their colleagues was of the utmost importance and that incidents were kept to a minimum.

James Carter, Network Health and Safety Manager at M&S says: “Our colleagues are our most important asset and keeping them safe is the most important thing we do.”

It was then a priority for the HSE team to investigate best-fit tools and technology in order to ensure they were equipped to easily identify areas of risk in their business and promote proactive decision-making that results in a safer workplace for staff.
