Check out a wealth of expert speakers and 50+ innovative exhibitors at the upcoming Tomorrow’s Warehouse Event at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester on 2 October. The conference will provide answers to your warehouse transformation questions.
THE MISSION of Tomorrow’s Warehouse is to help answer your warehouse operation queries. That’s why we have assembled a crack team of experts to present unique insights on a variety of key issues in the warehouse. Find your way to the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester on 2 October to reap the benefits of these insights.
But that’s not all you will get. As well as expert speakers, the event is home to more than 50 top drawer exhibitors, offering solutions to even the most complex and intractable problems you may encounter in your operations.
The exhibitors are there to help you in partnership, and focus on a variety of areas of expertise from automation and robotics to MHE; from doors to temporary buildings; from safety solutions to flooring, IT, packaging and more.
Each of our exhibitors is determined to take your processes and make them more efficient and seamless in partnership with you and your teams. On top of all this, you will earn CPD points by attending the event, working handily towards your annual total. Attending the event means you get up to 14 hours of CPD accredited educational content.
Looking at the content in a bit more detail, Tomorrow’s Warehouse Manchester is our first to focus a dedicated Warehouse Property seminar theatre. Let’s look in more detail at the content we have in store across the main and property theatres.
In the main theatre, we will tackle four key topics in our sessions. Each session features presentations and ends with a discussion panel.
eCommerce and Warehouse Transformation
Our first seminar session focuses on strategies for coping with Warehouse Transformation in the eCommerce arena.
The first presentation is from Boohoo Head of Operations Amy McNamara who will outline what it takes to manage warehouse transformation in the extremely pacy world of fast fashion. Amy is responsible for overseeing a 2 million sq ft distribution centre in Burnley with over 2,000 colleagues. Join us to hear insights on automating to stay ahead in the lightning-fast world of eCommerce.
Rueben Scriven from Interact Analysis is one of the warehouse automation industry’s leading analysts and will discuss high level trends in this rapidly evolving sector.
The discussion panel will give you the opportunity to put questions to Amy and Rueben, as well as a selection of our event partners, in a bid to find the right solution for your warehouse operations.
Automation
Our second session delves further into how to get the most out of your warehouse automation. First, John Lewis Distribution Director John Munnelly presenting. John Lewis was one of the first major retailers to innovate in the omnichannel retail revolution with huge investments in automated warehousing, most notably at the Magna Park Campus in Milton Keynes. John Munnelly reflects on this innovation and leadership and asks what the future holds in an ever more unpredictable world.
The automation session will also feature headline sponsor Element Logic UK. Its sales director Gavin Harrison will speak on ‘humans v machines - the eight myths of warehouse automation’. This will tackle the industry’s preconceptions of automated warehousing and how to make the most of your operation.
The discussion panel will give you the opportunity to put questions to John and Gavin, as well as a selection of our event partners. Sarah Payne, Head of Central Logistics, Jaguar Land Rover will play a key role in the discussion panel, as will Dave Berridge, from event supporter, the Automated Material Handling Systems Association (AMHSA).
Forklift Safety
Our third session focuses on forklift safety. First up, is Karl Wilshaw, Fleet Director, Travis Perkins. He will outline how, as part of its decarbonation plans, Travis Perkins is switching out diesel forklift trucks for electric models. So far around 700 of these have been fitted with a unique sound alert named SIVAS to address concerns about the electric forklifts' operational quietness compared to their diesel engine counterparts, and the potential safety risk this could pose. Karl Wilshaw, Fleet Director, Travis Perkins tells the story of the sound study commissioned by Travis Perkins plc from the University of Salford Manchester’s specialist acoustics testing team that led to this groundbreaking innovation.
“Safety is paramount. We all expect to work in a safe environment,” so says UKMHA Chief Executive Rob Fisher. The UKMHA has rolled out a number of initiatives to help reduce incidents and is calling on warehouse occupiers to get actively involved and ensure they are up to date when it comes to warehouse and site safety.
The association runs the National Forklift Safety Day, which this year was a multi-month campaign to help highlight the seven stages of a forklift safety incident. Rob will highlight the campaign in his presentation and how you can take an active role to boost forklift safety.
Freeport Opportunities
This session opens with a presentation on opportunities for Sustainable Development at the Liverpool Freeport, from Jonathan Coleman, Freeport Project Manager, Liverpool City Region Freeport.
The new Liverpool City Region Freeport offers impetus for new warehouse development, job opportunities, and much more. Jonathan will outline the opportunity and how the freeport will contribute towards the UK’s sustainability goals.
Jonathan is joined by Jennifer Swain, Director of Talent, Development and HR, Road to Logistics, who will present on how equality drives better outcomes for all.
Many groups within society are neglected as potential employees in warehousing, even as labour shortages grow. Jennifer will outline how to open up your talent pool, referencing ongoing work at the Liverpool City Region Freeport.
Warehouse Property
Manchester will see the debut of the Warehouse Property seminar theatre, which will feature sessions on Warehouse Property and Power. This session will tackle sustainability, solar and much else, with contributions from developers, as well as Clare Bottle, CEO of the UK Warehousing Association, representing the logistics sector.
The second session will examine the warehouse property market from a national and regional perspective. This session will feature Kevin Mofid, Head of EMEA Industrial and Logistics Research at Savills among others, with both sessions chaired by Liza Helps, Property Editor at Logistics Matters.
The third session will be focus on Warehouse Property: Fire safety and resilience, be chaired by the Business Sprinkler Alliance, and feature Alison Phillips, Head of Fire Safety at Ocado Group. The Group has learned many lessons since the destruction of its Andover fulfilment centre in a fire in 2019.
