BREAKING NEWS: Yale releases MR reach truck
09 October 2013
Yale’s new MR reach truck pushes levels of productivity and dependability to new heights for warehouse operators while squeezing cost of ownership to an absolute minimum.
Redesigned from the ground up, Yale’s new MR has been designed to be robust in construction, with high levels of comfort, intuitive operation and class-leading performance characteristics. It features a new chassis, new mast design, new operator compartment and new control systems.
It is initially available in 1.4, 1.6, 2.0 and 2.5 tonne load capacities. With ever increasing lift heights being specified by 3PL companies and warehouse operators, the 2.5 tonne model has been designed to lift a 1.0 tonne load to a height of 12.5 metres.
The new MR reach truck has received over 55,000 hours of product development - including operation in the warehouses of some of the world’s most demanding end users and a rigorous test cycle of over one million operations.
Yale says the truck is capable of best-in-class maximum travel speed of 14km/h and lift speed of 0.8m/sec, coupled with its high manoeuvrability and ease of use. It adds that test cycles have demonstrated that the new MR can deposit and retrieve more loads per hour than the operators of all major rivals.
A new design of mast channel on which a patent is pending offers improved deration performance as loads are raised while reducing mast deflection to a minimum. This allows smaller capacity trucks to be used for lift heights that would previously have required substantially larger and more expensive models. It therefore saves money on initial truck purchasing costs and the costs associated with energy consumption, while also ensuring the new MR is suitable for even the most confined operating environments.
"The 2.5 tonne model has been designed to lift a 1.0 tonne load to a height of 12.5 metres.”
Supplied in three frame sizes and four different chassis types to suit standard, compact and drive-in operations, the new MR series’ bolt-on operator compartment incorporates a whole host of operational and comfort-enhancing features to ensure operators stay fresh and focused throughout their shift.
A wide access step and dedicated grab handles help operators enter and exit the truck smoothly - unlike some competitors’ products which force drivers to negotiate a 500mm-plus jump between cabin and ground level. Once inside the operator’s compartment, the generous leg room, new high-quality fully adjustable full suspension seat (which reduces transmission of vibration from uneven floor conditions), adjustable armrest with integral mini-lever module and adjustable steering column all help operators to stay relaxed and comfortable.
Control comes through a steering wheel on the left hand side and either a four-way mini lever module or Yale’s new mini joystick for hydraulic functions on the right. Both allow the operator to execute precise operation and load movements with confidence, providing accurate and near-instantaneous response to the operator’s input.
When it comes to keeping drivers aware of critical truck information, the MR has an industry first optional touch screen display, which provides the operator with information on the truck’s status from battery charge and direction of truck movement to mast position and load weight, and allows easy tailoring of the truck’s operational performance characteristics. The standard display module with LCD screen, carried over from Yale’s successful electric counterbalanced truck range, also provides truck status information and performance mode selection.
Yale has pledged to follow the touchscreen with further innovations including inbuilt telemetry systems that will give fleet managers easy remote access to truck usage and performance data.
Key Points
• Lifts 1.0 tonne to 12.5 metres.
• Maximum travel speed of 14km/h and lift speed of 0.8m/sec.
• Available in 1.4, 1.6, 2.0 and 2.5 tonne load capacities.
• Industry first in-cab touchscreen display.
• Laser positioning system.
• Quiet and smooth new mast design.
• Redesigned truck ergonomics.
Energy Low (eLo) and High Performance (HiP) settings, personal and application operating parameters can be pre-set for every operator and application through the standard or touch screen display. This ensures the performance settings of the truck can be matched precisely to the operator’s experience and the application’s requirements.
Visibility from the operator’s seat has also been enhanced, with the MR’s unique new mast channels not only helping to increase residual capacities but providing better line of sight than ever before, both forwards and when looking up through the overhead guard. Operators will also appreciate the smooth, quiet transition of the mast sections.
The bolt-on, easily replaceable overhead guard provides operator protection and excellent visibility when working at even the highest racking locations. Operators working with loads at heights of over four metres will also appreciate the optional laser positioning system, a European first from Yale. A red laser shines onto the racking face to clearly indicate fork height and position, which helps cut the time taken to place and retrieve pallets and reduces the risk of damage to racking, loads, pallets and forks.
A fully insulated cold store cabin with glass or polycarbonate panels is available that offers protection in environments down to -30°C. A cab heating system, as well as optional heated windows, interior light with auto-dim function and protective bumper are incorporated.
Easy preventative maintenance has also been designed into the new MR, with long service intervals, component commonality across the Yale range and straightforward access to the major components all helping to maintain maximum uptime and keep the costs involved in servicing to a minimum.
Yale’s renowned build quality combined with the MR’s intelligent design and the use of dependable and proven industrial-quality components all help to keep unplanned maintenance requirements to minimum levels.
Yale warehouse product strategy leader Robert O’Donoghue said its innovative design, outstanding productivity, leading use of technology and tailored ergonomics would make it "the reach truck of choice for every fleet manager” in the future.
"This truck’s high levels of performance, sector-leading ergonomics and low lifetime costs will help Yale customers achieve increased productivity while reducing their fleet size, lowering their energy consumption, achieving a faster return on investment and boosting their profitability. This really is a reach truck that sets new standards in the market.”
