Sheffield manufacturer kits out warehouse with Manitou MHE

03 January 2014

The Foodservice Equipment division of Manitowoc was keen to run its factory warehouse as efficiently as possible and approached Manitou for help.

To ensure the smooth operation of the manufacturing plant and the warehouse a ME316 Manitou 3 wheeled electric forklift and an EP18 pedestrian truck have been supplied by local Manitou Industry dealer, Hessle of Castleford.

Craig Wilkins warehouse and spares value stream manager at Manitowoc explains: "The ME316 is what we call container specification - it is neat and compact and therefore ideal for unloading large consignments of steel and oven components as well as general loading duties in the yard and warehouse.

"Our operators are all very impressed with the performance of the machine – a real "step up” from more conventional trucks. The fleet manager system of the ME316 has given our management team full driver accountability with impact sensors, logging of hours worked and advance warning of when operators need to renew their licences.”

The pedestrian truck is used for supplying components to the production line with the ability to take pallets of parts direct to where they are needed. The required parts are then removed at a workable height to reduce manual handling.

The majority of components are bought in from third party companies. Steel metal is cut and shaped to the exact requirements of the production line.

Manitowoc Sheffield is one of two UK manufacturing plants, the other being Manitowoc Beverage Systems in Halesowen. Both have industry-leading KPIs for safety and productivity.
