AUTOMATION MILESTONE FOR SWISSLOG:
24 November 2014
Global automation business, Swisslog, celebrates the recent sale of its 1,000th AutoStore robot.
The 1,000th AutoStore robot was sold to Competec as part of a comprehensive project to extend its customer fulfillment capabilities.
"We’re delighted to reach this significant milestone which reflects the speed at which the market has embraced AutoStore,” says Swisslog UK’s Managing Director, James Sharples.
"Thanks to our automation experience, we’ve realized more than 35 AutoStore projects across the globe and continue to invest in developing further improvements to the system’s overall performance.” Swisslog’s Click&Pick® solution, utilizing the AutoStore storage and retrieval system, has been developed to provide optimal space usage in both new and existing installations.
The pick stations, tailored to integrate seamlessly with customer’s business processes, allow them to increase pick rates and virtually eliminate the chance for picking errors, whilst also providing a more reliable system than otherwise thought possible.
AutoStore has also played a key role in the growth of retail businesses, offering a way to meet the demanding logistics challenges of e- Commerce.
Said James: "Swisslog’s Click&Pick solution integrates AutoStore technology with e- Commerce focused software and pick stations.
This combination of high speed workstations, fast pick rates and incredible flexibility has enabled retailers to maximize their operations and has made AutoStore a technology of choice for forward thinking e-Commerce players. The robots are an important part of our overall service so this is a great milestone, also signaling the success of our core capability as a full service supplier.” AutoStore uses autonomous robots on an aluminum grid to access products stored in plastic containers, which are stacked directly on top of one another. To ensure high throughput, fast moving items are stored in the upper layers of the grid. With no need for aisles, space utilization is maximized, leading to the system being seen as "the most compact storage system in the world".
Furthermore it features outstanding reliability, with any robot available to access all inventory in real time.
The added value for customers is AutoStore’s integration with Swisslog’s WM warehouse management system, which manages and supports logistics operations and inventory management, via a user-friendly interface, and drives the controls software system.
"The growth of e-Commerce has been a major driving force in the market,” adds James, "creating the need for new solutions. AutoStore has helped push back the boundaries and we’re delighted to have reached this latest milestone of market acceptance.” Swisslog, the most experienced supplier of solutions such as AutoStore, is rightly proud of its successes to date, particularly in the ECommerce, Temperature Controlled Food and Pharmaceuticals industries.
Swisslog also provides a comprehensive range of automated solutions for materials handling requirements, with extensive expertise in the planning and implementation of entire distribution centers including architecture and construction aspects. Swisslog’s wider company services, including design, consultation, management and service support, provide fast implementation and consistently high uptime.
To date over 1,000 integrated distribution centers have been designed and implemented globally.
