100 tonne bridge section collapses at Port Salford

A 100-tonne section of a lifting bridge being built across the Manchester Ship Canal collapsed on May 16.
No one was hurt.
Port Salford is a freight terminal under construction on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal.
The bridge that partially collapsed is part of local road improvements needed due to the port development.
The port is part of the Atlantic Gateway project led by Peel Ports, a subsidiary of The Peel Group.
Peel plans to link Port Salford to the upcoming Liverpool 2 deep water container terminal. The first phase of Liverpool 2 is expected to be fully operational in the autumn.
General Mills announced in April last year that it will take a 280,000 sq ft anchor site at the Port Salford logistics park.
