Huge portcentric developments launched in the UK
Leading UK ports ink deals with logistics property developers to build substantial portcentric logistics warehousing.
PD Ports has linked up with Gazeley to announce they will develop up to 1.6 million sq ft of build-to-suit sustainable portcentric logistics warehousing at Teesport.
Rival ports company DP World has joined with a different logistics property developer – Prologis – to announce they will build a 316,000 square foot distribution centre at the London Gateway Logistics Park.
Both announcements were timed to coincide with the MultiModal exhibition in Birmingham, which focuses heavily on transport, ports and third party logistics.
Teesport
In the Teesport development, it is expected that up to 500,000 sq ft of space will be
directly rail linked via the dedicated onsite rail freight terminal.
Teesport is already home to ASDA Walmart (360,000 sq ft direct import centre) and Tesco (900,000 sq ft ambient import centre).
London Gateway
The London Gateway venture will be built with port, road and rail connectivity, and is expected to be completed by spring 2015.
The facility will be built speculatively to offer flexible distribution space. The single-sided, 15-metre-high unit has a 55 metre yard and space for potential expansion. The building will be built to achieve BREEAM 2011 ‘very good’ accreditation.
