Combat collisions with telematics

Q&A with GemOne, a supplier of telematics and fleet management software, on how this tech can help keep staff and stock safe.

THE COMPANY launched 10 years ago in Australia and has developed a range of customers around the world. We caught up with them to get the lowdown on what they offer.

HSS: Which GemOne solution is best suited to the warehousing and logistics market?

GemOne: Our Sapphire solution is the next generation of telematics for industrial machinery aimed at making your warehouse safer and more efficient. It implements itself easily into the material handling industry and logistics market. The solution is designed for both dealers and end users of machines. Sapphire has a range of state-of-the-art features including access control, on-screen checklists, battery monitoring and machine usage analysis; all of which help companies avoid unexpected downtime.

HSS: What are the safety benefits of the GemOne solution?

GemOne: Key features on the Sapphire solution include a safety checklist with customised questions per machine, licence management and verification of training requirements, access control via PIN code or RFID and automatic collision lock-out. GemOne also offers a 360° Proximity Warning Solution which predicts potential collisions involving forklifts and pedestrians by providing audible, vibrating or visual warnings. This ensures safety all round and safeguards employees whilst avoiding damage to any machinery.

HSS: How easy is the solution to install and use, both from an operator and fleet manager perspective?

GemOne: GemOne simplifies the installation and use of your telematics. We connect to all makes and models of machines. We easily interface with existing hardware and software and train your end users as part of the onboarding programme. GemOne’s solutions are able to process your data quickly and securely in the Cloud. This solution's hardware utilises android technology, so your employees can easily operate the 7” colour touchscreen and choose the communications option that works for your company, whether that’s WiFi or 4G.

HSS: Tell us how you can benefit operational efficiency?

GemOne: The telematics systems empower you to track your vehicles, boost efficiency and avoid unexpected downtime. Our Onyx solution is a fleet management tool for mixed industrial fleets which accommodates all makes and models of machines and integrates different types of trackers.

Track & trace is one of the key features included with Onyx. You’ll know exactly where your machines are located. We fit each machine with a tracker which constantly communicates with the GemOne platform. GemOne tracks your fleet in real time and stores the data so you can use it for reporting or business decisions. The track and trace function also means you can find a machine quickly for pickup at the end of a rental period or for maintenance. With this software you can also set geofences as virtual boundaries for the operational area of your machines and you’ll immediately receive a notification if a machine exceeds these limits. Even machines not in operation are protected with the tracker’s internal battery.

We also offer a Battery Monitoring System with a focus on preventing downtime and optimising the performance and lifetime of the batteries. The GemOne BMS captures the information from the batteries and alerts service technicians and operational staff about anomalies and actions to take to maintain good battery health.

HSS: What makes your solution stand out from the competition?

GemOne: We integrate an online cloud platform which offers business data, great user experience and continuous support. Businesses can download reports or schedule them to suit their needs. GemOne’s telematics are versatile, meaning we can connect any make or model of machine. Our telematics hardware is IP67-certified and built to meet industrial demands. GemOne solutions are fully customisable, whether that's setting alerts or parameters and users can choose optional add-ons such as the battery monitoring system.
