Cardiff DC to power aggressive Aldi growth plan

Retailer Aldi will invest over £109 million in the UK across the next 12 months, building a distribution centre and new stores.

The £25 million distribution centre in Cardiff will begin construction in the second quarter of 2015 and will create an estimated 400 jobs.

Data from Barbour ABI indicates that 33 new stores should start construction within the next 12 months.

Aldi will also take on the likes of Tesco and Sainsbury’s in the smaller convenience store format.

Aldi intends to create 35,000 jobs and have 1000 stores open in the UK by 2022.
