Major developments in pallet network sector
Former Palletline MD joins Pall-Ex, as Palletways unveils new strategic blueprint. This follows Palletline revealing in the summer that it has extended the pallet network model into contract logistics.
Pall-Ex CEO Hilary Devey has appointed former Palletline MD Kevin Buchanan to the role of Group Managing Director at Pall-Ex with effect from the 24th November 2014.
The changes will see former Group MD Adrian Russell moving to a new role on the Group board as Deputy Chairman.
In addition, Chris Tancock is promoted from his existing role as Sales Director to Deputy Group MD as part of the strategy for the development of the European networks.
Commenting on the changes, Hilary Devey said: “Kevin and I have been in discussion for some time about how he might help with the ongoing development of the business. It was Kevin’s track record and passion for quality and growth that convinced me that he has a pivotal role to play in the future success of the business.”
New blueprint
Palletways has launched a new strategic blueprint in its Vision 20:20 document.
This includes a programme to optimise territory boundaries served by members to bring about operational efficiencies and cost savings from improved delivery drop density and better trunk balances.
It also includes the creation of a Digital Information Hub which provides extensive operational and customer data in real time to improve processes, communication, traffic planning and vehicle utilisation. Info covered includes: live vehicle status information and delivery profiling.
Palletways will also introduce an online trading operation meaning customers can book their express palletised freight orders direct online. Launch of this service is planned for early 2015.
Luis Zubialde, MD of Palletways UK said: “Ultimately Vision 20:20 sets out to transform the way pallet networks operate and is focused on continuously improving on what we have done before in terms of efficiencies and adding value to our customers.”
PLUS Logistics
In the summer, the hauliers that make up pallet network Palletline launched PLUS Logistics, which was billed as the UK’s first member-owned logistics provider.
The company offers contract logistics services including warehousing and storage, through the night, pick and pack, consolidation services right through to click and collect.
