Planning submitted for 260,000 sq ft logistics unit at Airport City Manchester

MAG Property has jointly submitted a planning application with logistics property specialist Stoford for the creation of a 260,000 sq ft logistics unit at Airport City Manchester, the flagship Enterprise Zone development.

Stoford is working on behalf of an international investor to develop an 11-acre plot at Airport City South, creating a new world-class logistics hub adjacent to Manchester Airport’s existing cargo centre and Junction 6 of the M56 Motorway.
Lynda Shillaw, MAG’s Divisional Property CEO, said: “In response to growing market demand for logistics and industrial property we are progressing this development with Stoford by submitting an outline planning permission for the site at Airport City South. We will provide specific details about the development in due course.”
Airport City Manchester is located within a two-hour drive of all UK businesses and a consumer market of over 24 million people. Airport City South provides a full range of air-to-road transfer, assembly and processing activities for freight and logistics businesses. Outline planning permission for the development of 1.4 million sq ft of logistics space and 36.6 acres of new landscaping, was granted by the local authority in November 2012.
Part of the UK Government-designated Enterprise Zone for Greater Manchester, the £100m logistics hub will create 1,800 jobs by expanding Manchester Airport’s successful freight terminal to improve international trade, cut transit times and drive more efficient, sustainable supply chains.
The Airport City logistics hub forms part of a wider £800 million, 10 year development by Manchester Airports Group (MAG) that will transform Manchester Airport from a regional transport hub into an international destination in its own right. The first of its kind in the UK, it will compete with successful airport cities across Europe including Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Barcelona. Manchester’s new Airport City aims to attract inward investment and provide new employment opportunities – further enhancing the city’s growing status as a major European business location.
