TLA Robotics shines light on innovation
The recent networking event highlighted a number of robotic start-ups that could disrupt logistics, and other industries, in the future.

THE EVENT showcased technologies in short presentations, demos, and allowed innovators to network with investment professionals and others.
Xcavate Robotics CEO Senake Atureliya attended the event at Shoosmiths in the City of London this month, and told Logistics Matters about his company’s robotic excavating technology, which could be used to create underground warehousing, where space is a premium in city centres. The warehouses could be built under open spaces, such as parks and be serviced by delivery robots.
3D CAD company Onshape presented on how it is is being used by Ocado in the design of its latest generation 600 series bots. The cloud-based system allows different teams at Ocado to collaborate.
Onshape also works with DHL on its digital manufacturing programme, which focuses on cost effective 3D printing of parts [although not for heavy loads], for short runs and quick availability.
Crover has developed a robot that burrows through grain storage silos, monitoring temperature and moisture, aerating the product, and eliminating the need for dangerous manual interventions.
The Wootzano Avarai is post-harvest picking robot, which claims to enable robot grippers with human-like touch. The modular and compact robot is integrated with computer vision and boasts dynamic path planning. The solution is said to provide a 30-40% reduction in labour and increase productivity by 1.5 times.
Acuity Robotics has created a system to carry out robotic asset inspection, particularly for areas where it is expensive and dangerous to put people, such as wind turbines.
