Retailers seek better warehouse integration
Speaking at The Delivery Conference, Manhattan Associates managing director UKI Craig Summers, told Logistics Matters that software integration was proving key as retailers were rolling out tech and automation in response to greater complexity, skills shortages and other challenges.
“WE’VE BOUGHT into that in a big way,” he explained. “Our Manhattan Active system allows us to talk to multiple Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) or to robotic systems.
“You also need to manage the interaction of these systems with how human resources are deployed.
“For example, when goods come off the conveyor line, you need the right number of people there to process that volume, but you don’t want people waiting around either. The WMS can help managers to match staff and tech assets optimally to workload.”
Manhattan Active comprises integrated modules – such as Active Inventory, Active Omni, and Active Supply Chain – meaning that retailers can use the system to as an end-to-end supply chain tool.
“The buzzword is Unified Commerce,” Craig explains. “The integrated approach is really key.”
