Vans see growth spurt as delivery diversifies

The Freight Transport Association says news that van numbers have exceeded four million for the first time in the UK is proof of their huge contribution to the logistics industry and the UK economy.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) announced today that a total of 4,007,331 vans are now in use on UK roads – a 4.3% increase on the previous 12 months. Demand for new vans is also at a record level.

Mark Cartwright, FTA's Head of Vans, said: "This further demonstrates the continued growth of vans and their importance to the UK economy in supporting online and entrepreneurial activity.

"However, with great power comes great responsibility, and it is incumbent on operators of all sizes and sectors to ensure that they operate their vehicles in a safe, compliant and efficient manner. FTA's Van Excellence programme exists to help operators achieve this goal."

Van Excellence is on show at FTA's stand F20 in Hall 4 at the CV Show at Birmingham NEC this week.
