Amazon announces 1,000 new jobs

Many of the permanent jobs will be in the logistics sector as the online retailer extends its fastest delivery service Prime Now.

The jobs come on top of 2,500 permanent roles announced in January. This will bring the total number of full time permanent employees to more than 15,500 by the end of this year.

Doug Gurr, UK Country Manager, for Amazon said: “We are hiring for all types of roles from software engineers, computer programmers and corporate managers in our R&D centres and head office, to operations managers, engineers, service technicians, HR roles and order fulfilment roles in our fulfilment centres.”

Amazon is building two new fulfilment centres at Manchester Airport City and Leicester Coalville with a combined floor space of more than 1.6m sq ft.
