Silva Timber turns to Wickens
The specialist timber products firm used cantilever racking from Wickens Engineering for its warehouse.
When Silva Timber was moving to new premises, it asked Wickens for advice on maximising the storage capacity of their new warehouses.
Wickens proposed double sided cantilever racks for an efficient layout and recommended a fork lift truck solution for the application.
The aisles have racks full of timber packs on both sides.
The installation required over 40 tonnes of steel to manufacture the racking.
A mixture of single sided and double sided cantilever racks were supplied to timber packs on cantilever racking to maximise use of available space. A total of 102 uprights, 6 metres tall, were manufactured and installed, forming runs of up to 21 metres long.
The overall storage capacity of all racks is 408 tonnes spread across five storage levels. Wickens organised phased deliveries and installation to minimise disruption in Silva’s warehouse operations.
