Bespoke mezzanine floor for DFS

Furniture retailer DFS ordered two specially-developed Transdek mezzanine floor lifts for its Glasgow customer distribution centre.

DFS has over 120 stores in its retail estate covering the UK, Ireland, Spain and the Netherlands, and regional customer distribution centres across the UK. The new 20,000 sq ft mezzanine level at DFS’ Glasgow hub provides storage capacity for an additional 440 furniture racks, which the Transdek goods lifts provide access to.

Transdek designed and manufactured the bespoke mezzanine lifts at its South Yorkshire plant to meet DFS’ requirements. The lifts have an enlarged three-metre by three-metre platform size suited to carrying three furniture racks to and from the secondary storage area.

James Brown, project manager at DFS, said: “We have been very impressed with Transdek’s professional approach throughout the design, build and delivery stages of this project. Not only have they supplied a robust, well-engineered product at a competitive price, they also managed to deliver the lifts two weeks ahead of schedule to suit our build plans.”

The lifts have a 750kg safe working load and are engineered for 24/7 heavy-duty warehouse operation. In keeping with Transdek’s focus on modular, rapid-installation products, the DFS units were fitted directly on to the warehouse floor.

Dean Butler, operations director at Transdek, commented: “We work very closely with our customers to provide tailored, added-value solutions. For DFS, that meant a redesign of our standard mezzanine lift range to marry to their sofa racks. The team at DFS has already given us very positive feedback, and we’re delighted with the outcome.”
