THE ONLINE giant has been linked to the 61-acre site for more than two years but had not confirmed that it proceed with the development until this week.

Planning for the controversial 2 million ft2 plus fulfilment centre was secured by developer Wykeland at the end of 2021 despite 1,300 objections at the time.

The facility will have a footprint of 558,000 ft2 with three mezzanine floors bringing the total floorspace to 2,012,205ft2. It will have 794 car parking spaces as well as 191 HGV spaces.

Construction work is now due to start next year, with operations launching in 2025.

The site is located south of the Melton Interchange of the A63 and approximately 8.5 miles east of Junction 38 of the M62 motorway.

Amazon acquired the site from Wykeland 18 months ago.

State-of-the-art robotics will be deployed to improve the delivery processes, increase operational efficiency and safety at the facility which is expected to  provide up to 1,200 jobs.
