Budget supermarket retailer Lidl is closing its Walsall distribution centre.

LIDL HAS decided to close the centre because the property is no longer fit for purpose.

The property was bought second hand in 2008 and is now more than 50 years old. The site will remain operational for another 12 months and it is expected employees who wish to, will redeploy to other Lidl centres notably the retailer's larger RDC in Wednesbury.

A Lidl spokesperson said:Since 2008, our Walsall facility has been a key support function for our stores and distribution centres however, the site itself is not purpose built having been constructed 50 years ago and, with multiple buildings of varying ages, it is no longer able to meet our operational requirements.”
