Scissor lifts target retail sector

A new range of scissor lifts has been launched by Hörmann Transdek, designed for loading bay areas, especially in the retail sector where space can be restricted.

THE RANGE provides a fast, efficient, and safe way to load and unload trailers with bed heights up to 1590mm. Suitable for serving vehicles at traditional docks or level access bays, Hörmann Transdek scissor lifts can also be used for moving goods between split levels in factories and warehouses.

Serving both internal and external locations, the low profile design scissor lifts are primarily designed to be surface mounted which means there is no need for pits or civils works on site. This reduces costs and unnecessary disruption for the customer and allows for rapid installation, which can be achieved in under one day. The range is available in two sizes: 6 or 9-cage variants offering lifting capacities of up to 3000kg, covered pod options can also be provided for external applications.

The lifts are fitted with a gas sprung heavy duty bridge plate which ensures safe and precise bridging between the platform and the trailer, whilst a hydraulic, fixed lead-on ramp with a low gradient provides easy, safe access at ground level. The lifts are operated via a simple set of hand-held controls, from either ground level or within the platform to offer greater flexibility for any application.

CE marked and built in conformity with EN1570 and the Machinery Directive, Hörmann Transdek scissor lifts are built for a lifetime of robust and safe operation. Designed with operator safety as a priority, a range of safety features have been incorporated, including a curtain to prevent access under the platform when it is in a raised position, electronic safety edges fitted around the lift table, a sliding personnel gate and fall protection gates with robust locking mechanisms.

Hörmann Transdek business development manager James MacDonald, says: “While we expect that the majority of scissor lifts that will be supplied into the market will be surface-mounted, with our unique design we can easily install these into existing pits to accommodate every application.”

Bespoke loading platform

Hörmann Transdek has recently completed the installation of a bespoke loading platform for leading drinks distributor HillsProspect LWC. Having been initially contacted regarding one of their standard loading bay products, Hörmann Transdek worked with the company to design and develop a unique solution to their very specific loading requirements.

HillsProspect LWC operates a fleet of forty vehicles from their Romford distribution facility, ranging from 7.5 to 18 tonne in size, which in the main are loaded using a number of standard dock levellers. Alongside these were two level access bays which were proving not to be as efficient and were causing concerns about operator safety. After initial consultations and design proposals, Hörmann Transdek worked closely with HillsProspect LWC to provide a tailored solution to speed loading operations and improve operator safety.

The resulting loading facility features a raised 56 sq m platform which has been constructed within the warehouse. It incorporates anti-slip flooring, safety barriers, steps, and a perimeter handrail to ensure operator safety. Two Hörmann mini docks have also been fitted with a simple, manually operated lip to bridge the gap between the loading platform and the vehicle.
