BT-Systems has delivered a fully automated high-bay warehouse as the core element of Sofidel’s $200 million expansion project in Duluth, USA.

TISSUE PAPER company Sofidel’s new automated warehouse will have 35,000 pallet locations and be equipped with five high-performance stacker cranes and dual-mover shuttles capable of simultaneously transporting two pallets weighing up to 750kg each. The combination of deep-lane storage systems and a reduced number of aisles significantly increases storage density and minimises the footprint.

BT-Systems has also developed a custom conveying solution that ensures high transport performance while minimising resource consumption. The intelligent transport system and optimised warehouse layout make a substantial contribution to improving the overall energy efficiency of the facility. The warehouse will be managed using the BT-Systems WMS, combined with a robust PLC automation system. BT-Systems is acting as the general contractor for this project, and has a REDWAVE Competence Center to assist with on-site support.

Completion of the fully automated warehouse is scheduled for 2026.
