PROPOSALS FOR the charging hub have been submitted to North Northamptonshire Council and will consist 18 eHGV charging bays and five cab only EV bays each with a dedicated 400kW charging unit installed on a 2.42 acre site known as Plot 3 Zone B.
Adopting the latest in technology, the EV charging hub will create charging capacity for HGV’s serving Prologis Park Kettering, although they would also be available to other commercial vehicles if booked in advance.
Prologis Mobility operates over 30 EV charging sites globally. The proposed HGV EV charging hub at Prologis Park Kettering is the first to be introduced in the UK.
It is proposed that the charging infrastructure will be installed in a phased manner. The phasing strategy includes an initial 4 HGV dedicated bays in 2025 and 4 additional HGV bays per year by 2030. The charging units provide an approximate one-hour charge time per bay. Other equipment required for the charging bays, including a substation and power units are also located within the site.
The main component of the development will comprise hardstanding with charging bays for HGVs in the centre, surrounded by an internal vehicular route. Soft landscaping has been provided around the perimeter of the site to soften its appearance.
The site will be barrier controlled, with an access protocol that is ANPR or RFID. This will be integrated into a back end booking system to enable controlled use of the site.
It will be accessed from the existing roundabout at Hipwell Road which connect into the wider estate road network at Prologis Park Kettering. Access will be controlled by an entrance gate, beyond which is vehicle barrier.
A WC block and external amenity area with a covered pergola, picnic area and seating are provided for drivers to utilise whilst their vehicles are charging.
