CMC Packaging Automation is transforming fulfilment by delivering fully automated, right-sized packaging solutions that reduce labour dependency, minimise material usage, optimise transport efficiency, and significantly lower carbon emissions. Francesco Ponti, CEO, CMC Packaging explains.

Our systems help global retailers, ecommerce and logistics companies meet rising operational demands while delivering measurable sustainability gains.

These companies are operating under unprecedented pressure, managing labour shortages and rising operational costs while simultaneously navigating stricter sustainability regulations and reduction targets. At the same time, they must keep pace with rapidly increasing order volumes and growing fulfilment complexity, all under heightened scrutiny regarding packaging waste and carbon emissions.

CMC directly addresses these priorities by enabling on-demand, right-sized packaging that eliminates void fill, reduces volumes, and accelerates throughput in automated environments.

Our innovation roadmap combines footprint efficiency, modularity, and deep software integration. A standout example is the launch of the CMC Super Vertical. Engineered to produce both right-sized paper bags and corrugated boxes, it eliminates the need for pre-consolidation for multi-line orders, delivering enhanced operational efficiency and optimised space utilisation. Its compact design, occupying less than 10 sq m is ideal for installation near put walls and integrates seamlessly into existing warehouse workflows. Despite its small footprint, the system delivers remarkable performance, producing up to 500 packages per hour, significantly improving throughput compared to manual operations. It also aligns with EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), making it a crucial enabler of compliance for industry players. It cuts CO2 emissions by up to 30% thanks to reduced parcel volume and improved truckload density, while also consuming an average of 47% less energy than traditional systems.

Looking ahead to 2026, we will also continue to deepen integration between our packaging systems and warehouse automation and management software, advancing end-to-end fulfilment automation through solutions such as CMC Genesys, powered by our patented CMC Vary-Tote. This technology enables direct pick-to-pack flows and fully automated order handling. This closed-loop system increases accuracy, eliminates manual handling, and boosts speed and productivity in the dark factory.

Automation and sustainability are converging. Right-sized, in-line packaging will define the next era of fulfilment—intelligent, efficient, and environmentally responsible. CMC is leading that transition, enabling enterprises to scale faster, operate smarter, and meet the demands of a circular, data-driven supply chain.
