THE PROPOSED 620,000 ft2 AirLink facility is being promoted as part of the Newcastle Airport’s Masterplan 2040 programme to achieve 9 million passengers by 2040and grow the cargo operations which totalled 6,000 tonnes in 2024.
This will include provision for a cargo hub serving as a base for cargo operators, freight forwarders and ground handling agents.
Newcastle has appointed Buccleuch Property in partnership with Argon Properties as preferred developer to deliver the project
The development of this site is likely to attract additional investment from cargo operators at the Airport and increase capacity of operations over the Masterplan period
The Airport intends to submit a planning application in the near future.
AirLink could feature a range of modern units, offering direct apron access so cargo can be loaded and unloaded swiftly and efficiently from aircraft. It also has the potential to create up to 1,000 direct jobs on the Airport site, with up to a further 900 roles supported through supply chains and business partners, generating up to £165m a year for the regional economy.
Letting agent for the scheme is Naylors Gavin Black
