Sovex opens a manufacturing facility in Malaysia

Conveyor manufacturer Sovex has opened a 20,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Kluang, Malaysia.

The company, which specialises in the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of conveyor systems to clients such as DHL, DPD, Hermes, UK Mail and Yodel has undergone phenomenal growth in the last two years.

Sovex previously had conveyors manufactured under licence by a reputable supplier but recognised the need to open their own facility to step up supply to meet the increased demand for their vehicle loaders and unloaders.

The new facility will also allow Sovex to manage their own supply chain and offer shorter lead times to customers. The factory will specialise in producing material handling equipment for their European orders. Sovex have a sales office in Holland which has enabled them to tap into European markets including a €6m contract with Deutsche Post.

Having a base in Malaysia will also help them to tap into the Asia Pacific market and they are already speaking to some organisations in that part of the world.

Malcolm Dooley, Sovex’s Technical Director has been responsible for identifying the premises and sourcing the necessary machinery and labour. Malcolm said “It’s an exciting time for Sovex and I’m looking forward to the first units coming out the factory in August.”

Sovex will continue to manufacture in the UK and have increased their UK manufacturing base by 30%. In the last two years Sovex has doubled its UK-based staff and now employs over 100 people at its base in Prenton.
