Shelving solution installed for Christmas
Saddlery Brands International, the distributor of Bates and Wintec equestrian saddles in the UK is now operational at its newly acquired warehouse in Brackley, following the installation of a longspan and short span shelving solution from SEC Storage, delivered against the odds during the lead-in to Christmas.
Saddlery Brands International acquired a new 10,000 sq/ft warehouse in Brackley, Northamptonshire and due to an existing premises lease expiry, needed to relocate at short notice. Following the search for a suitable UK supplier from their head office in Australia, they contacted SEC Storage to help supply a storage system on an extremely short lead time.
“We contacted SEC Storage at the beginning of November, with an urgent requirement to fit-out our new warehouse in as short a timescale as possible but preferably, before Christmas and by the end of 2018,” says Michele Skala, CFO at Saddlery Brands International.
“We had searched both the new and used marketplace, with no-one that was able to assist and was beginning to worry if it was even possible.”
In order to deliver the installation in time, SEC Storage made intelligent use of its independent supply chain, calling upon a key supplier that was able to provide the correct specification racking system in time.
Due to the need to store a vast range of SKUs including saddle racks, mounted racks and general equine products, a combination of longspan shelving and short span adjustable shelving was specified. This solution would offer a flexible solution on how and where Saddlery Brands International store their products, while maximising the available floor space.
It was just 48 hours from initial enquiry to SEC Storage placing orders with its supplier and installation commenced 5 weeks later, enabling Saddlery Brands to relocate in the given timescale.
“The whole process, from start to finish, was as smooth as could be. Once the order was signed off, SEC Storage’s on-site team worked tirelessly to get the project completed before the arrival of our new stock,” comments Michele.
Fourteen lorries were used to transfer 21,000 products to the new warehouse, with Saddlery Brands International fulfilling 100 orders on its first full day of operation.
“We are delighted to have been able to assist Saddlery Brands International on such a tight timescale,” says Dean Kahl, marketing manager at SEC Storage.
“The flexibility that our independent supply chain offered us, as well as ability to mobilise our installation teams in such a short timescale, meant we could deliver against the odds as well as offer an optimised and flexible storage solution.”
Having made best use of the available warehouse footprint, Saddlery Brands International have the ability to expand further by maximising the cube as and when demand requires, making use of the existing shelving systems.
