Serve to win

Impact Handling business development manager Peter Woodhouse says service is important for both business success and new product development.

While much has been speculated about Impact Handling’s switch to become the sole distributor for Cat Lift Trucks in the UK, the main reason was a shared vision of customer support which embraces the idea that working in partnership to meet customers’ business needs is the route to long term success.

Local service support plays a significant role when it comes to understanding customers’ site specific needs and in the event of accidental damage or a breakdown helps to provide a more rapid response. However, the main benefit of local service is that it is better placed to provide the right level of timely service and maintenance that prevents breakdowns in the first place.

With local support from engineers trained by the manufacturers to support a wide range of equipment, Impact Handling are ideally placed to identify the right equipment to suit both operational and site specific needs.

This in depth understand of the equipment available, both its benefits and limitations, and a real world understanding of customers’ needs mean that Impact Handling is able to provide impartial advice to ensure customers get the right,fit-for-purpose equipment, that will meet their operational and budgetary needs.

This level of understanding also adds to the customer focused new product development for Cat Lift Trucks. Manufacturing to the highest standards already leads to a process of continual development, however customer feedback is integral to the improvement process. As well as direct customer liaison, feedback from the service teams helps to clarify issues and identify areas for action.

As an example, the latest generation of IC engine counterbalanced lift trucks features a number of subtle changes to enhance safety and reliability and also helps to reduce operating costs. The overhead guard of the new generation has been changed to improve upwards visibility whilst the latest generation of engines fitted meets all current emission regulations whilst still providing market leading economy.
