Scandit has released the SDK 8, which is designed to embed intelligence at the point of data capture, and intends to transform traditional barcode scanning.

Powered by the Scandit AI Engine, the SDK 8 automates previously manual error-prone, time-intensive steps to reduce errors and increase operational efficiency. Frontline workers are guided through tasks by augmented reality (AR) overlays to prioritise actions that will drive profitability such as optimised stock replenishment and receiving with exception handling.

The Scandit SDK 8 dynamically adjusts to the scanning environment, for example whether being used by a retail store associate or a delivery driver in the last mile.

New additions include:

  • AI-powered barcode scanning: Dynamically adjusts settings to scan the right barcode in cluttered environments. Intentional scans are filtered from accidental duplicates. Text recognition is triggered automatically as a back up to capture a barcode’s value when it’s unreadable.
  • MatrixScan Pick: In dynamic environments such as store backrooms, warehouses and fulfilment centres, MatrixScan Pick enables users to scan multiple items simultaneously and instantly view associated tasks via an AR overlay. Users can interact with AR overlays via a simple tap to confirm actions and update the status. With up to 6x quicker process completion for workflows such as audit inventory, task execution is also more accurate. One luxury fashion retailer saved over $1m in annual labor savings by efficiently handling receiving with MatrixScan Pick. The time to train new workers is also minimised by removing the guesswork and reducing errors.
  • Smart Label Capture: Extracts barcode and text data simultaneously from the same label more than 10x faster compared to manual input. Essential for expiry date checks.
