COUNCIL PLANNING committee members gave the application the go ahead at a planning meeting earlier this week.

The new cold store totalling 108,900 ft2 sits alongside a 16,250 ft2 extension to its existing facility. Together  the proposals  is expected to  create circa 40 full time equivalent jobs.

CCL, which acquired the site in 2023, said that the additional space and upgrade of the facility was  integral to its ability to remain operational at the site. It reported that the site had not been upgraded in more than 30 years. It is intending to invest some £80 million in the upgrade which will double  the storage capacity on the site to 40,000 pallets.

The upgrade and new warehouse facility is set to be operational by summer 2027.
