Consumer goods giant centralises European distribution with DSV
Spectrum Brands, the consumer goods group behind Russell Hobbs and Remington, has consolidated its European logistics network into a single centralised operation run by DSV, after a review found its primary warehouse was around 50% too small.

THE REDESIGN, led by supply chain consultancy SCALA, replaced a fragmented network involving more than four logistics providers, which had created a reliance on additional sites and made costs difficult to track. The new operation has capacity for 65,000 pallets and ships more than 180,000 pallet equivalents a year.
SCALA began with a centre of gravity study to identify the best European warehouse location and network design, before running the competitive tender that selected DSV as strategic logistics partner. It then supported Spectrum Brands with planning and risk management for the new operating model.
“Partnering with SCALA and DSV has not only enabled our team to better utilise warehouse capacity in our new building, but has increased visibility and control, simplifying our supply chain process,” said Luke Crook, international supply chain director HPC at Spectrum Brands.
Chris Clowes, executive director at SCALA, said the network had been designed to support future growth and cope with demand variability.
