Conveyor system at heart of warehouse fire

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service tackled a fire in part of a conveyor system in a warehouse at Gladstone Dock, Bootle on Friday, July 4.

Station manager Barry Moore said: “The fire was located in a sealed metal box that contained the conveyor system and firefighters worked with site staff to gain access to the fire and extinguish it.

“A digger had to be used to help move access doors to the conveyor system so firefighters could locate and tackle the fire. There was a smouldering fire inside the casing of the conveyor system and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire.”

The fire was extinguished by 5 in the afternoon and no one was hurt.

“We had four fire appliances on scene to make sure we had enough people to carry out our assessments and work, which was approached in phases, to identify where the fire was and to keep it contained and limit damage in the warehouse,” said Moore.
