Greggs seeks Northamptonshire NDC
Baker Greggs is looking to secure a new state-of-the-art distribution centre in either Kettering or Corby according to its latest annual report statement.

THE MOVE is in response to ambitious growth targets by the popular high street baker to open 140 to 160 shops in 2024 with a view to running 3,000 retail outlets in the longer term. As at 30 December 2023, the baker has 2,473 shops.
This news follows the announcement that pre-tax profits for 2023 were up to £188m with an annual sales boost of 13 %.
The plans will require an overhaul of the company’s supply chain and warehouse capacity. It announced that it will redevelop its distribution centres in Birmingham and Amesbury to increase adds logistics capacity for 300 shops by end of 2024. It is also looking to open two new distribution facilities in the Midlands in 2026/27 and to that end has aready secured a frozen manufacturing site in Derby, and is looking to secure a state of the art national distribution centre for the storage, picking and distribution of ambient and chilled goods in Kettering/Corby which will enable the company’s existing radial distribution centres to extend their capacity.
As yet there is no news on exactly where the NDC will be loated but it will have to enhance the baker’s 2040 net zero carbon target.
Possible schemes that could provide such facilities include GLP’s Magna Park Corby scheme which is seeking detailed planning for two more units on its 5 million ft2 scheme of 602,456 ft2 and 1,012,453 ft2, which will be built to target a minimum BREEAM rating of Excellent.
