On the day, more than 100+ logistics professionals attended the Logistics Innovation and Research Centre (LRIC) in Middleton, Manchester. This is a functional warehouse used daily by work-based learning provider Mantra Learning and is fitted out in collaboration with the 20+ WTG member companies involved in the manufacture and supply of specialist equipment to the warehousing and logistics industry.
Grahame Ramsey of Interroll and one of the WTG team members said: “We look to create informative events for management and logistics professionals to hear about the latest industry developments and network with potential suppliers and solution providers.”
The event was presented by British TV and radio presenter Martin Henfield and started with “The Interactive Warehouse Train Set” – a novel and informative concept that identifies and demonstrates each step of the logistics process, highlighting the importance of integration and synergy between the different WTG partner processes.
This was followed by a keynote speech from Simon Dixon, MD of Hatmill Logistics & Supply Chain Advisors and covered the hidden costs and opportunities involved in moving and developing a new warehouse.
The event also gave WTG partners the chance to showcase their products and included the first UK demonstration of Flexi’s new ‘high volume – low cost’ case picking demonstration.
WTG bi-annual open days are informal sessions to help industry professionals make informed purchasing decisions. Blessed with glorious weather the choice of a spit roast BBQ luncheon seemed perfect and gave everyone the opportunity to network and ask question of individual suppliers.
Building on this success, dates for the next Warehouse Technology Group (WTG) event will be announced on the website and any interested parties can register their interest to attend on line. A video of the “Train set” demonstration will also be available.
