Royal Mail joins the Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme
Royal Mail has joined the Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme (LCRS) to demonstrate its commitment to reducing carbon from road freight.
The LCRS, which is managed by the Freight Transport Association (FTA) is a voluntary initiative to record, report and reduce carbon emissions from road transport. The scheme demonstrates the efforts of industry to cut carbon emissions and contribute to national carbon reduction targets.
Paul Gatti, Royal Mail’s Fleet Director said: "We are delighted to be part of this voluntary programme to monitor and reduce freight carbon emissions. Royal Mail takes carbon reduction very seriously and is already undertaking a wide range of initiatives to improve fuel efficiency and reduce vehicle kilometres. Working with other fleet operators through the LCRS will help us to share best practice and identify the best ways to reduce our carbon footprint.”
Rachael Dillon, FTA’s Climate Change Policy Manager, added: “The FTA is pleased to welcome Royal Mail to a growing number of companies that are focused on making carbon reduction and fuel efficiency a priority within their fleet operations. The scheme is free of charge and easy to take part in, whether you have one or 1000 vehicles. I’d encourage more companies to join this initiative.”
FTA is also running the LCRS Leadership in Carbon Reduction Award sponsored by Bridgestone to celebrate the decarbonisation actions that are being taken by LCRS members. The deadline is next Friday 11 March.
