Symbotic acquires sortation specialist cellumation
Warehouse robotics company Symbotic has acquired German automation firm cellumation, creator of the celluveyor, a software-driven sortation platform that replaces conventional conveyors.

THE CELLUVEYOR is made up of hundreds of independently controlled, omnidirectional cells, each able to move an item in any direction. Symbotic expects it to deliver more throughput and handle a wider range of products in a fraction of the space conventional conveyors need, freeing warehouse space for storage and potentially reducing capital equipment costs.
The technology is already in live use with postal and logistics operators worldwide, and it is expected to simplify the architecture of Symbotic’s inbound and outbound robotic cells.
cellumation, based in Bremen and founded in 2017, will continue to operate under its own name and serve existing customers. Its celluveyor will be sold directly and to other integrators, as well as built into Symbotic’s systems.
The deal follows Symbotic’s acquisitions of ARMS Innovations and Fox Robotics, and strengthens its presence in Europe.
