Union inks deal with XPO and calls for workers to share eCommerce success

The union Community has made an agreement with XPO Logistics over two sites sites in Northamptonshire and Yorkshire.

This includes the Barnsley DC of fashion e-tailer ASOS, where both XPO and ASOS have come under criticism for poor working conditions. Both organisations strenuously denied the claims.

Community says it will give XPO workers at the sites a strong, independent, collective voice on important issues relating to their employment, and access to first class legal advice and representation. Community’s professional staff have already begun working with existing Community members within XPO to grow the union’s presence and ensure that all employees know the full benefits of union membership.

Sean Scorer, Community’s national officer for logistics, said: “Community has a track record of driving up pay and standards within the logistics sector and this relationship gives us new opportunities to support workers within XPO Logistics. The rapid growth of e-commerce in the UK has seen the logistics sector grow too.

“Community wants to see companies like XPO grow and succeed, but we also want workers to share in that success. This agreement is a positive step in that direction and we look forward to working closely with our members and the company in the coming weeks.”
