Warehouse safety on the agenda at FSDF seminar

The Food Storage and Distribution Federation is hosting its fifth Technical and Safety Seminar, focusing on warehouse safety encompassing fork lift truck operation, racking design and automation.

Coordinated by the award-winning FSDF Technical & Safety Committee, TASC Seminars are aimed primarily at Health & Safety, Technical and Facilities Managers working within the food and drink logistics supply chain. They provide an opportunity for industry professionals to hear up to date presentations on issues affecting the industry from specialist speakers who are renowned experts in their field.

TASC5 will focus on the warehouse environment and cover fork lift trucks, racking and automation. With the HSE taking a particular interest in the safe operation of fork lift trucks, this seminar examines the implications of ACop L117 on operators of all sizes and highlights the responsibilities of drivers, supervisors and managers under these regulations.

The programme will also examine the safety of racking systems, how to correctly specify and design a racking system to suit your requirements as a food logistics operator and when an automated system is the correct solution.

Chris Sturman, CEO of FSDF commented: “The FSDF is a member of the HSE’s Logistics Strategy Forum and has good relationships with both HSE and HSL. Through this involvement we know that fork lift truck operator competence and the competence of those who supervise them are currently a high priority for the HSE.

“We know that it is no longer enough to simply train FLT operators, to ensure that safety is front of mind they must be regularly re-assessed to ensure their continued competence particularly should they be involved in an on-site incident. Equally, just because it is written in someone’s job description it does not mean they are competent to supervise FLT operations. This event will provide invaluable information and insight to anyone who is responsible for the safety in warehouses throughout the UK.”

The event will feature presentations from industry leaders such as:
• Peter Harvey MBE, Chief Executive Fork Lift Truck Association
• John Maguire from Narrow Aisle
• Allison Tucker from Linde Material Handling
• Simon Lee from The Rack Group
• Jeremy Green from Storax
• Mike Vernon from Witron

The TASC5 Seminar takes place on Thursday 5 March between 09h00 – 16h30 at the Deafblind UK Conference Centre in Peterborough. Tickets are still available – please call the FSDF team on 0118 988 4468 or email [email protected] for further information.
