£1m fine for Poundstretcher after warehouse safety breaches
The retailer was prosecuted by Swindon Borough Council for health and safety failures in one of its warehouses and a number of its stores.
The owners of budget retail chain Poundstretcher have been hit with a £1 million fine over dangerous and chaotic working conditions.
The retailer admitted 24 health and safety at work offences as a result of over-stocked warehouses and storerooms. It failed to keep aisles and fire exits clear and did not give staff proper training.
The case came after checks at a cluttered warehouse in Swindon – following a complaint from a worker – and at a number of shop branches.
The firm has more than 400 stores and employs 6,000 people and was also ordered to pay £65,000 costs.
