Corrugated packaging solution
Antalis Packaging has saved a leading supermarket hundreds of thousands of pounds each year after recommending the retailer install a corrugated solution to resolve damaged packaging on returned garden furniture.
As one of the UK’s largest supermarket chains, in the run up to the summer sales rush the retailer sells thousands of units of garden furniture each week, some of which is inevitably returned by customers.
With customers returning the outdoor furniture in original packaging, a growing problem facing the supermarket was that the items often arrived back at the warehouse with its packaging in a dishevelled state. This meant the items were having to be resold at a fraction of the original price, costing the retailer in excess of £130,000 each month. As such the retailer’s returns system was in urgent need of a secondary packaging process so that goods that are essentially in perfect condition, could once again be sold at full price.
Antalis Packaging, a packaging specialist with extensive experience in retail warehousing and logistics, worked with the supermarket chain to identify the scale and size range of the returns.
Based on Antalis’ recommendation, the retailer agreed to trial two different sizes of Continuous Fan-folded corrugated material to re-pack the items. With the two widths able to accommodate the entire furniture product range, the corrugated packaging proved ideal for high value, large items as it eliminates the need to stock vast amounts of different sized boxes, thus minimising wastage and saving valuable warehouse space.
