Engineers prove competence

Loading bay apparatus manufacturer Thorworld Industries has announced that five of its specialist engineers have been awarded with a new and highly sought-after Level 2 NVQ certification in Specialist Installation Occupations (Construction) – Loading Bay Equipment – Installation or Maintenance.

Responding to calls by the Association of Loading and Elevating Equipment (ALEM) for more recognised loading bay manufacturing assessment processes to be put in place, Thorworld Industries has been highly proactive in encouraging its staff to achieve this new, vital qualification; devised to help engineers work safely and correctly when installing and maintaining loading bay equipment off-site.

Christian Thorley, Darren Cockayne, Paul Bingham, Stephen Revill and Steve Burn have successfully completed the NVQ assessment – with Darren and Stephen being the first in the country to do so – having accumulated the necessary evidence to demonstrate they have been tested, assessed and proven qualified to work safely and correctly when installing and maintaining loading bay equipment.

John Meale, managing director of Thorworld, and former president of ALEM, said: “From our point of view, it’s fantastic that our engineers now have a recognised qualification to prove their competency. The result is an investment in skillset, confidence and safety improvements which will have a positive impact on Thorworld, as well as on the industry as a whole.”
