Fire at Neovia Logistics Land Rover warehouse

A blaze spread through the warehouse in Desford, near Leicester, which handles spares parts for Jaguar Land Rover, on Thursday night.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service sent eight appliances to tackle the fire.

Local residents reported seeing huge plumes of smoke and hearing explosions. The fire was thought to be under control by this morning but with severe damage to a building.

Leicestershire Fire Service suspect the fire may have started in a forklift truck and spread to the rest of the warehouse but the incident is still under investigation and no conclusions have been drawn.

It is thought that no one was injured in the blaze.

Neovia Logistics Services was created in a re-brand of Caterpillar Logistics Services in 2012.

This occurred after Platinum Equity acquired a majority interest in the company from Caterpillar in July 2012 with Caterpillar retaining a 35% equity stake.

Neovia specialises in service parts logistics, and also provides solutions for maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) and manufacturing logistics.

In May, Neovia extended its contracts with Jaguar Land Rover. It has provided warehousing, logistics and supply chain services to Jaguar Land Rover since 1986.

It is not known how disruptive the fire will be to Neovia’s business.

Handling & Storage Solutions contacted Neovia, but the company declined to comment on the fire.

Jaguar Land Rover said the fire was unlikely to have an impact on its customers.

A JLR spokesperson said: “We understand there was a small fire at one of our logistic providers, Neovia Logistics in Desford. We understand that the fire was contained to one building and there have been no injuries. A small quantity of the Land Rover parts stored on the site may have been affected, although we do not expect this to have any impact on our customers.”
