Gold safety award winner

ELOKON, the developer and supplier of safety and assistance systems for industrial vehicles, AGVs and cobots, won the Gold Award in the Safety Category of the Plant Engineering Product of the Year Award for its ELOshield proximity detection/anti-collision system for forklifts and pedestrians.

The award was announced in April 2019, at the annual Engineering Awards in Manufacturing event at the ProMat trade show in Chicago.

“ELOshield, which uses UWB wireless technology to prevent vehicle-to-pedestrian and vehicle-to-vehicle collisions, has now won four major awards in North America and Europe,” said Kevin Bradley VP of sales and operations of ELOKON’s new US subsidiary, ELOKON Inc. “We are very proud to bring such an innovative solution for material handling safety to the workplace. Forklift accidents are unfortunately still far too common, particularly those involving pedestrians. ELOshield’s automated driver-assistance technology warns both drivers and pedestrians in the warehouse when they are in unsafe situations and helps prevent accidents.”

The ELOshield system has two safety zones—“warning” and “protection”—which can trigger different system reactions, such as automatic vehicle slow-down. Each zone can be flexibly programmed for distance and shape.

The Plant Engineering Product of the Year Award is a premier honour for products in both the manufacturing and non-manufacturing industries, with 88 finalists in 15 categories. “The Gold Award for ELOshield is further confirmation that our safety and assistance systems for industrial vehicles are the up-to-the-minute solutions for the current challenges in the intralogistics sector,” said Bradley. In 2018 this innovative safety guard won the MHI Innovation Award and the Best of Industry prize and in 2017 it was the overall winner of the handling award.
